Backlash Mounts in Iran Against Arrest of Dancing Teenager
The arrest of 18-year old Iranian gymnast Maedeh Hojabri for posting a video of herself dancing in her bedroom wearing non-traditional clothing to social media led to widespread protests in the Islamic Republic, including the posting of similar videos by sympathetic Iranians inside and outside the country. The clerical regime was mocked in many of the videos, with popular blogger Hossein Ronaghi-Maleki telling the regime "You will be laughed at if you tell people anywhere in the world that 17 and 18-year-old girls are arrested for their dance, happiness and beauty on charges of spreading indecency, while child rapists and others are free."

Meanwhile, Iran got some more bad economic news recently with the announcement by another European air carrier, Austrian Airlines, that it is cutting routes to Iran in light of the deteriorating economy and looming sanctions. The ongoing investigation into the involvement of Iranian diplomats posted to European capitals in terrorism is also believed to have played a part in the announcment.
